May 8th - Day 8
Driving back to Proctor Simon and I signed up to tour the Zimmerman house in Manchester built by Frank Lloyd Right. The house was unique. It was built diagonally to cut down less trees possible. It was quite small but the house was designed to take the most advantage of the space. Lloyd used the technique of 'compress and release': when you enter the house the ceiling is low and you walk right into the brick wall, then you walk through a really tight corridor and then enter the living room. The house was kind of minimalist, just enough space as you need. I think I'd love living in a house like that.
